The department of Home Affairs’ documentation to understand the new immigration regulations (requirement for unabridged birth certificates, affidavits, etc, as applicable) as they impact children can be confusing for travellers and even the tourism industry players. A Cape Town based online travel company, Drive South Africa has created an app to help people work out exactly which documents they need depending on their specific child-travel scenario. The app is free to use, requires no downloads, works on mobile and desktop — and simplifies the process by asking user to answer 3 simple questions before displaying a checklist of required documents.
The app was built using the standard operating procedures which the Department of Home Affairs provided to the airlines. The app has been used by more than 12,000 people in 124 countries since 1 June 2015. The link to the app is herewith below.
The content in the app is updated regularly should new information be received. However, please note that ulitmately if there is any uncertainty on interpretation regarding any provisions, industry and customers should consult with the gazetted regulations and the Home Affairs website.
